Welcome to May Arts Week!!

Good Monday Morning!

Welcome to May Arts & Glue Arts week!

If you're not familiar with May Arts...here's a little bit about them!

May Arts is a leading distributor of high quality ribbon products, serving a wide variety of merchants from large retail outlets to home-based business in the craft and scrapbooking, gift, stationery, quilting, fancy food, floral, interior design and jewelry industries.  Since its founding, May Arts has built its business on a foundation of quality products, affordability, and outstanding customer service.

We're thrilled this week to share with your daily projects using the beautiful May Arts ribbon and of course our Glue Arts products. That's one perfect combination!!

Today Designer's Danielle Flanders, Cheri Wenger and Linda Albrecht have wonderful holiday gifts and decor ideas to share that will certainly appeal to crafters of all levels!!

Sweet Christmas Cheer Ornament and Card
Designer: Danielle Flanders

Designer Into: I wanted to create a quick, easy and inexpensive card and ornament for the holiday to give to special people like bus drivers and others who help my children throughout the year. I found a clear glass ornament at the craft store in a package of 8 and filled them with M & Ms and dressed them up with pretty ribbon and a nice saying on the front. The card was simple to make too. Here's how:

Supplies for card and ornament:
White and red cardstock
Stripe embossing plate and Cuttlebug Machine
Glue Arts: Ribbon Adhesive and Permanent Adhesive Squares
May Arts ribbon: 352 1.5"x30y WHITE SHEER/DIAGONAL STRIPES (WIRED) and XL 1"x15y - FAUX SUEDE LEAVES
Star sticker: Jenni Bowlin
Dimensional star: Artisan Elements by Pink Paislee
Glass ornament, box: craft supply
Sweet sticker: Sweetness by Pink Paislee
Rub on sayings: Melissa Frances
Candy

“Christmas Greetings” card instructions:
1. Create card base with white cardstock. Dry emboss with stripe design.
2. Wrap sheer ribbon around card and tie in a bow. Add star sticker to center of bow and a small dimensional star element.
3. Adhere two May Arts faux suede leaves for the “holly” and punch 3 small circles from red cardstock for the “berries”. Attach.
4. Apply Christmas rub on saying to card.

“Sweet Christmas Cheer” ornament instructions:
1. Affix “sweet” sticker directly to glass ornament. Apply “Christmas Cheer” rub on saying below.
2. Tie May Arts ribbon to top of ornament. Add star sticker and a dimensional star element.
3. Open up top of ornament and fill with small candies such as M & M’s. Close top of ornament.
4. Fill box with leaf ribbon and set ornament inside. (You’ll need a deeper box than the one I have here.) The soft ribbon keeps the ornament safe from breaking.
5. Dress up top edge of box with a piece of the sheer ribbon edge.

The No Sew Apron

Designer: Cheri Wenger

Create this fun and fabulous no-sew project using Glue Arts’ adhesives and May Arts’ ribbons. Done in black, white and Glue Arts colors...coordinates perfectly with your Pro and favorite Glue Arts adhesives!

Supplies:
Glue Arts' Glue Glider™ Pro with Fabric Bond Adhesive Cartridge
Glue Arts Ribbon Adhesive
Glue Arts’ Extreme Mini Adhesive Squares
Ribbons from May Arts
Buttons: Assorted Black buttons plus Lime Buttons from Foof-a-la Bag -O-Buttons Savannah Collection
Adult white Apron (Michaels Craft Store)

Instructions:

1. Do your preliminary pattern planning by laying ribbon strips on top of the apron on a flat surface like the floor or a large table. Cut the ribbons slightly longer than the width you need for easier handling. (Then you won’t have to put your fingers in the adhesive!)

2. Get help transferring the apron onto an ironing board or smooth surface for ironing on the ribbons.
3. Attach ribbons to apron one at a time using your Pro with fabric bond adhesive cartridge applied to the back side of each. You can change up your pattern as you go along, if necessary, as you can tell I did.

For straight pieces of ribbon apply in two strips along the top and bottom edges, and sides if you like.

(Tip: It is best to use darker colors and thicker ribbons like Grosgrain for this so the adhesive doesn't show through, however, if you want to use silky ribbons or lighter colors, plan to where you can overlap darker colors to hide the edges.)
For large ric rac strips place adhesive at angles for best coverage, as shown.
4. To attach, position ribbon on top of apron and only iron on top of the area you want to attach. Trim excess ribbon along the binding.

Note: For small velvet ric rac, I used ribbon adhesive applied in a strip directly to the apron. If you try to apply to the back of velvet ribbon, it may pull of some of the fuzziness when you try to remove the clear liner. This is why it is best to apply it to the fabric or ribbon instead.

5. Once you have all of your ribbons attached, you can now embellish with bows, ribbon rose and buttons. To create bows, trim ribbon to desired length and knot in the center. Trim ends and apply fabric bond adhesive to back of ribbon as shown. You can also put fabric bond or some extreme mini adhesive squares on the back of the knot. To attach buttons, I used a couple extreme mini adhesive squares on the back of each to attach to the apron.

6. Below is a close up view of ribbon rose. To create "leaves" fold 5-6" pieces of green ribbons in half and secure loop with Glue Arts’’ extreme mini adhesive squares. For wired ribbon, you can twist ends of ribbon together. Attach to fabric with fabric bond.
To create ribbon rose, coil a 7-8" piece of wired pink satin ribbon into a rosette and secure ends on back side (as shown below) using extreme mini adhesive squares. Put additional adhesive squares on back to attach to fabric. You can also attach using fabric bond with Glue Glider and an iron. Layer rose on top of ribbon "leaves".
7. Finish off by making a bow out of spotted ribbon and attaching to top center of apron over top of same patterned ribbon strip. Cut pink and green ribbons and tie onto right and left sides of neck strap to finish your colorful, artsy apron.

Woodsy Winter House
Designer: Linda Albrecht

Time for a Christmas project! I love to make cute little houses each year to embellish the tops of gifts or for Christmas home decor. Each can look a little different and this ones theme was inspired by the Faux Suede Leaf Trim from May Arts.

Supplies:
Glue Arts Gue Glider Pro, Ribbon Adhesive, and High Tac Adhesive
Glue Arts Hot Glue Gun and glue sticks
May Arts White Fuzzy Pom Pom trim, Textured 2-Tone 1.5" ribbon, Faux Suede Green Leaf trim, Turquoise and Green Velvet/Corduroy ribbon, and White Webbed Weave trim
BasicGrey "Jovial" collection papers- (Naughty and Blizzard)
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist- Santa Baby
Paper Mache house
Acrylic paint
Red heart brads
Teardrop crystals
Twigs
Mica Flakes and clear glitter

Instructions:
1. Paint portions of the paper mache house as desired then adhere patterned papers. Remove paper from the windows and door openings on the house using an exacto knife.
2. Adhere pieces of the Webbed Mesh trim to the inside of the windows using Perma Tac Adhesive.

3. Cut pieces of Velvet/Corduroy ribbon to mimic shutters for the windows and adhere them to each side of the windows using Glue Arts Ribbon Adhesive.
4. Apply some liquid glue to the Webbed Mesh in the windows then apply Mica Flakes.

5. Cut a piece of chipboard for the door, apply Permas Tac Adhesive to both sides, then cut pieces of the Green Velvet/Corduroy ribbon and wrap them onto the chipboard.
6. Attach a door handle to the ribbon door piece then adhere it to the opening. Attach heart shaped brads to each ribbon shutter. Adhere pom pom trim to the base of the house. I also cut individual pom poms after applying the trim to fill in for a snowier look.

7. Cut leaves apart on the Faux Suede leaf trim. Apply Perma Tac Adhesive to the roof of the house then add the individual leaves to cover entire roof.

8. Use hot glue gun to wrap a piece of silver pipecleaner around the chimney base to cover where the leaves end.

9. Adhere pom pom trim to the roof line using hot glue behind each pom pom to hold in place. Apply glue to the chimney and some spots on the rood then apply Mica Flakes to resemble snow.
10. Make a large ribbon rose from the Mauve Textured 2 tone ribbon, by twisting and hot gluing into place to form a rose. I sprayed the rose with Glimmer Mist to alter the color to match the red in the patterned paper. Allow the rose to dry without using a heat gun so that it doesn't come apart by the hot glue getting too soft.
11. Adhere twigs to each side of the house then add a few crystals as desired.

12. Once the ribbon rose is dry, adhere it to the lower peak on the roof along with a few twigs and crystals, using the hot glue gun.
13. Add any additional sparkle as you wish using glitter.
