Collage Frame & Cards Galore

That's just what we have in store for you today!!

Crate Paper is in the spotlight this week here on the Glue Arts blog. If you have never used their products...we invite you to visit their website and blog to see all their products and how their Crate Paper Girls use the products.

Although we will admit...our Glue Girls have once again made some projects that we think are simply outstanding!! We hope you agree!

Designer Jessica Barnett made a sweet set of Teacher Treat jars that will be perfect to use for the upcoming holiday. Designer Leslie Ashe has made the cutest card set...who would not want to receive these (and then keep!!) And Designer Cheri Wenger has made a gorgeous family keepsake picture frame!!

Family Thoughts Collage Frame
Designer: Cheri Wenger

Designer Oops: Have you ever put your heart and soul into a project only to have something go wrong at the last minute? Well, that describes this Unintentional Upside Down Frame design. I must confess that I got so into the creative process and didn't realize in the wee hours of the morning that the easel was not one that could easily be flopped to make the window be on the left, as I designed it. I didn't realize this until I was putting the glass and easel back in to photograph the finished project. The solution is to use the base elements of this design and rearrange as you like, making sure that the large photo window is on the right!

Glue Arts Glue Glider™ Pro with Extreme Adhesive Cartridge; Extreme mini and adhesive squares; U-Cut It Adhesive Foam
Restoration Collection from Crate Paper: Doilies, Slipcover, Lace and Fringed CS.
Darice® 13 x 18cm Ready to Finish Frame
Martha Stewart Infinite Loops Trim Punch
Stampin’ Up!® Whisper White CS,;Victoria Crochet Trim; Classic Going Grey Ink and Sale-A-Bration Whimsical Words stamps
Color Box Chalk Lime Pastel Pigment Ink
Karen Foster Design Yellow Scrapper’s Floss
Pearl Rhinestones

The photo, below, shows the frame, ready to decorate. Note: Photo mounting and easel back were designed for photo window to appear on right side and not left side of frame. Take this into account when planning out and assembling your collage frame.
To create opening for frame from 12 x 12 paper, place Doilies CS face down with frame face down on top. Remove glass and backing from frame and trace opening with marker or pen, then cut out with craft knife and cutting mat. Edge sides of paper and opening with lime pastel pigment ink pad. Further antique by dragging grey ink around edges. Cut additional 3-1/4" square from scrap CS and set aside.
Flip over frame and attach CS to front using Glue Glider™ Pro and extreme adhesive cartridge.

Cut 4-1/4" x 12" piece from reverse side of Fringe CS and edge with grey ink. Place onto frame without permanently attaching.

Punch 12" piece of Lace CS with Infinite Loops Trim punch. Place on top of layer from previous step for positioning. Cut a 2-3/8" x 3-3/8" piece of Lace CS.

Hand cut flowers from Crate Paper Restorations Collection Slipcover Cardstock using small pointy scissors. Choose your favorite flowers to work with. See samples below.
This photo shows a side-by-side example of flat floral cardstock floral cut-out vs. wet and manipulated final flower.
Example of wetted floral cut outs, bent to create 3-D dimension. To give your flowers dimension, run under water in a sink ’til bendable. Crumple with fingers and manipulate to give shape.
Manipulated floral cut out that were wet and manipulated with fingers to create dimension.

Punch out chipboard elements you wish to use in your collage, however leave the liner on the back of these so you can experiment with positioning on collage frame. For vintage frames, trim away inside shapes with a cutting knife.

Create small bow from crochet trim.

Mini shadowbox frame tutorial:
Locate blue vintage chipboard frame. Attach chipboard flower by removing liner to expose adhesive. Add small piece of crochet trim and adhesive pearl using extreme mini adhesive squares. Turn chipboard frame over and remove liner. Cut a 3" square piece of clear transparency or recycle the plastic packaging from your Glue Glider™ Pro and apply flat to cover the window opening.

Apply scrap piece of CS to cover adhesive above transparency. Flip over and trim along contour of design with knife. Flip over again and attach strips of Glue Arts’ U-Cut It double-sided foam adhesive along the sides and bottom of frame as shown above. Check sizing of square piece of doilies CS trimmed previously. Trim if necessary, then attach to create backing of shadowbox frame. Add extreme adhesive to back and attach to your collage. You can fill with your favorite photo or another verse.
Take reference photo to recall positioning of elements prior to removing and glueing with assorted Glue Arts adhesives.

Assembling Your Collage:

To attach detailed punched image, use Glue Glider Pro with Extreme adhesive and scrap paper. Apply adhesive at top and bottom of strip. Using craft knife, remove adhesive from cut outs, then apply to project.

Cut 2-1/4" x 1-1/4" piece of white CS and stamp verse of choice in grey ink. (Or you can typeset your favorite verse, print and trim out). Edge with lime ink and mount onto lace rectangle using Pro. Remove liner from terracotta frame and attach framed verse inside. Apply additional extreme adhesive to back with Pro and attach to collage.

Remove liner from chipboard button and thread with Scrapper's floss. Wrap floss several times around middle and make a bow. Attach to
small frame with verse. Add an additional extreme adhesive square if necessary for better adhesion.

Example of layered flower using Glue Arts extreme adhesive squares to attach layers to one another and to frame. Note: flowers must be completely dry in order to attach adhesive. Use heat tool if necessary to speed up drying process, but be careful not to scorch paper by putting tool to close to CS. Use mini adhesive squares to attach loops and cut pieces of crochet trim behind flowers as well as to add pearls to centers of flowers.

Continue attaching all elements to your collage frame until complete.

Teacher Treat Jars

Designer: Jessica Barnett

Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro and Perma Tac refill
Glue Arts Hot Glue Gun
Crate Paper Restoration paper, stickers, borders and chipboard
Large lidded jars
Page from an old book
Two large silk flowers
Brown ink pad and sponge
Green ribbon
Fray stopper
Paper trimmer
Glimmer Mist in a brown color
Brown pen
Bakers twine

1. Measure the height of the jar and use the measurement to decide how tall to make the paper strips. My larger strips were about 2.5 inches and the smaller ones were about 1 inch tall by 12 inches long. Each jar needed two wide and two narrow strips to wrap all the way around the jar.
2. Use the brown ink pad and sponge to ink the edges of the strips. Dab the sponge onto the ink pad and swirl the ink around the edges of the paper to get an aged look.

3. Use the Glue Glider Pro to add adhesive to the back of the strips and wrap the strips around the middle of the jars. Try to keep them as even as possible so they meet up on the sides.
4. Spray the book page and silk flowers with the glimmer mist and allow to dry.
5. Ink the edges of the chosen chipboard and sticker embellishments with the sponge and brown ink.
6. Cut the book page into 1.5 inch strips and use to make the accordion folded flower.
7. Layer the chipboard and sticker embellishments with the flowers on the jar. Tie baker's twine through some of the small chipbooard buttons. Attach everything using the Glue Arts Hot Glue Gun.
8. Tie a piece of ribbon in a knot on the jar handle and trim the ends. Use the fray stopper on the ends of the ribbon to help them keep their shape.
